The Makefile now has the other versions as alt targets. Running make
ver0 will generate ver0.c and then try compiling it. Running make ver1
will do the same for ver1.c and running make alt will do this on ver0,
ver1, ver2 and ver3. Error in compilation in these rules are not fatal
so that make alt can continue. This is important for clang.
I have some other enhancements on the presentation of this entry but
they have to be reworked and decided upon (it might be that it's not
necessary with the alt rule but then the README.md file really ought to
be updated too which it will be in another commit).
It might be that making these alt targets is not even the right approach
but for now it'll do as at least it's easier to generate and compile the
individual files even if one does not use make alt. This is all TBD
later.
Try and improve the note during compilation that some versions will not
work with some compilers.
Make the other versions alt code. Running make alt will stop on the
first error but I made it alt targets so that make clobber will remove
the compiled files. In order to make it actual targets the Makefile
would have to do more to generate the files and this might or might not
be better.
Format fixes and a typo fix in README.md.
This to make the country code consistent with mkiocccentry (and I guess
international standard country codes).
This affects many README.md files and (for one line) winners.csv.
Simply the Makefile header.
Refer to the //www.ioccc.org/bugs.md URL (that will eventually exist).
Now using CC BY-SA 4.0 License to how you may share and adapt the

The main link was dead but looking at the Internet Wayback Machine I
found that he changed domains and it's still valid. One entry had a
different URL but with a quick check I could not determine that it had
anything to do with him so I changed it to his own domain (which I
verified is his).
The 2001/westley/.gitignore was also updated as it has other source
files that are generated by the commands in the try section.
In some files changed the formatting was fixed to be a proper markdown
file.
There were some typos including that some README.md files that linked to
/winners.html#Cody_Boone_Ferguson actually linked to the non-existent
file /years which obviously would not work.
I also added links to the rest of the places I have fixed entries (but
see below) and I did the same for Yusuke Endoh's fixes.
As well apparently one entry I thought he fixed to compile under modern
systems does not seem to so that entry will have to be revisited another
time. That entry was 1993/jonth.
Those are the main changes here if not all of them.
Some important notes here should be made. First of all with clang the
recommended commands in the README.md (which was also formatted and typo
fixed) will seemingly generate the correct files but still only
westley.c and ver0.c will compile with clang. With gcc they do compile
and seem to work as expected.
However I found a bug in the original code too where ver2 will sometimes
segfault. This also goes for the fix (again when compiled with gcc).
I did get ver[123].c to also compile but this seemed to cause invalid
output in some of the commands. That being said it might (though I don't
think so at this time) have been not knowing exactly what should be
displayed. Maybe I will look at it in the future but at least it now
works with clang even if not all of the generated files will compile
that way. Still macOS users can now take a look at the different output
of the program which seems good to me (it does not even have to be
source code that is output).
These things have been noted in the README.md as well.
There were some which cannot be compiled under clang. One entry we used
a patch from Yusuke Endoh to get the entry to compile; thank you Yusuke
for your assistance! Another one we used a patch from Yusuke (thank
you!) but I further fixed it so that it would work with clang. It had to
be done: IOCCC Tetris has to work! This was done by changing the
environment arg to main() to be a char * in main() itself rather than a
char **. Using a char ** in main() third arg got it to compile but only
one key worked with clang so I changed it to be not the third argument
but a regular char * in main(). **a (third arg) evaluated correctly but
*a[1] and onward was actually part of the environment. Again IOCCC
Tetris has to work!
I also fixed fubar to work which took a few tweaks.
README.md files were also updated.
In particular the following fixes were made:
-MKFIFo= mkfifo
+MKFIFO= mkfifo
-ZIPGREp= zipgrep
-ZIPINFo= zipinfo
+ZIPGREP= zipgrep
+ZIPINFO= zipinfo
If it's not immediately clear what the problem is the last letter of the
variable names were in lower case.
There is one exception:
$ find . -name '*.hint' -execdir git mv '{}' README.md \;
git statufatal: destination exists, source=1992/albert/albert.hint, destination=1992/albert/README.md
Looking at the two files they differ quite a bit so I've not changed it.
I'll bring this up on GitHub.
We we move 1988-2004 entries from all of a year's winning entries
in a single directory to each winner being in their own sub-directory
under the given year directory.
