Using 2018/mills (an amazing entry) with trial and error I was able to determine the approximate speed that the :-) moved across the screen and now the alt code moves at almost exactly (I believe, at least) that speed. The mullender.alt2.c was deleted; instead that became mullender.alt.c. This is because (I believe but have not confirmed) that the original did not exit after it timed out and there's no need to have two alt versions when they're so similar. One is good enough and the obvious choice is the one that can keep going on. .gitignore updated.
First Obfuscated C Code Contest
In 1984, the first contest was held. The name of the
contest was simply "Obfuscated C Code Contest".
Look at the README.mdfile for the given winning entry for information on how
to compile it and how to run the winning program. Look at the winning
source and try to figure how it does what it does! This year we only had
remarks from two authors but which came years later.
Restrictions against machine dependent code were not in the rules in 1984. The source file size restriction was only 512 bytes. Rules and results were posted to net.lang.c and net.unix-wizards. The contest was announced in a net.lang.c post.
