f07fec3a98
Eliminated the need for the `.tar.tstamp` files. It became intractable
to produce a tarball that was byte-for-byte identical to a tarball
on another platform. We further simplified the process used by the
`bin/tar-year.sh` tool to no longer need `.tar.tstamp` files.
Removed `.tar.tstamp` files and updated the manifest.
Sorry (tm Canada 🇨🇦) for the "flip-flop".
The `bin/tar-year.sh` tool now uses a similar algorithm to how
`bin/tar-entry.sh` determines if a compressed tarball needs to be
rebuilt.
Changed `bin/tar-entry.sh` VERSION from "1.3.3 2024-03-27"
to "1.3.4 2024-03-27".
Changed `bin/tar-year.sh` VERSION from "1.1.3 2024-03-27"
to "1.2 2024-03-27".
Performed `make www` and `make form_entry_tarball`
and `make form_year_tarball` to complete the above
actions and test these changes under macOS.
TODO: Test the `bin/tar-year.sh` tool under Linux.
TODO: Address issues with building the top level `ioccc.tar.bz2`
and the `bin/tar-all.sh` tool and the `make form_all_tarball` rule.
NOTE: The `bin/tar-all.sh` tool and the `make form_all_tarball` rule
and the `make tar` should **NOT** be used at this time.

The file <a href="shapiro.alt.c">shapiro.alt.c</a> contains a non-obfuscated version of

this program. Note that this alt file is currently missing. See

<p>The basic theme (pun) of this program is:</p>

<p>My entry (<a href="shapiro.c">shapiro.c</a>) is mostly comments, formatted in the shape of a
|
||
clock. If you strip out the comments and look at the code you will
|
||
quickly realize that the comments were the important part and that
|
||
the code does very little (see pun above). It writes (to <code>stdout</code>)
|
||
another C program (<a href="shapiro_t2.c">shapiro_t2.c</a>). This is the first level of
|
||
obfuscation.</p>
|
||
<p>The second program (<a href="shapiro_t2.c">shapiro_t2.c</a> (use <code>make everything</code> first)
|
||
prints a clock in the upper right hand corner of your VTxxx/ANSI display.</p>
|
||
<p>Most of the surface obfuscation in the second program
|
||
(<a href="shapiro_t2.c">shapiro_t2.c</a>) was an attempt to make it as small as possible.
|
||
You should be able to see around this with <code>cb(1)</code> and some more intelligent
|
||
variable names. Once you get past this you will realize that the third level of
|
||
obfuscation is a six member client/server hierarchy. (See the
|
||
<a href="shapiro.html">shapiro.html</a> web page for a detailed description of the algorithm.)</p>
|
||
<p><code>lint</code> complains about: precedence confusion, <code>K</code> may be used before set,
|
||
<code>main()</code> returns random value to invocation environment, value type used
|
||
inconsistently, value type declared inconsistently, function argument
|
||
(number) used inconsistently, function returns value which is always
|
||
ignored, function returns value which is sometimes ignored.
|
||
All of which are harmless (famous last words).</p>
|
||
<p>This may or may not work on non ASCII systems (I could not find one to
|
||
test it on.)</p>
