We are now not supporting the LegacyPayload for the onion packet
anymore. All payments and their onion payload need to be tlv
encoded. The sql backend assumes tlv so we have to always set the
in memory presentation of a hop where the legacy parameter is still
available but deprecated to false, otherwise the hops will not be
equal and unit tests for the sql backend will fail when switched
on in the next commits.
This commit improves TLV decoding safety and consistency across multiple
packages by enforcing fixed-length requirements and adding unit tests to
prevent malformed TLV records from being accepted.
Changes include:
- lnwire:
* Enforce 8-byte length in Fee TLV decoder.
* Enforce PubNonceSize in Musig2Nonce TLV decoder.
* Enforce 8-byte length in ShortChannelID TLV decoder.
* Added roundtrip and invalid length tests for Fee, Musig2Nonce,
and ShortChannelID records.
- routing/route:
* Enforce Vertex TLV length (33 bytes).
* Added encode/decode and invalid length tests for Vertex.
- tlv:
* Enforce correct length in DBytes33 decoder (33 bytes).
* Added tests ensuring all fixed-size primitive decoders reject
incorrect TLV lengths.
By strictly validating TLV lengths, we prevent malformed or corrupted
TLV records from being silently accepted, improving protocol safety.
Create the ChanIDString function to return a string representation
of the route's channel IDs, formatting them in the order they appear
in the route (e.g., "chanID1 -> chanID2").
Discarded routes with a success probability lower than the minimum
threshold are now logged accordingly when finding a blinded path.
So that we can use it in TLV encoding.
Also add this to the codec for channeldb migration 32 since we will be
using it there in an upcoming adjustment commit.
Previously, we'd use the value of nextChanID to infer whether a payload
was for the final hop in a route. This commit updates our packing logic
to explicitly signal to account for blinded routes, which allow zero
value nextChanID in intermediate hops. This is a preparatory commit
that allows us to more thoroughly validate payloads.
Add the missing channel field to the final hop in our clear text
route test case. Note that this is the channel of the hop. With the
addition of stricter validation, we'll need this so that the
penultimate hop has a non-zero next channel ID.
When we introduce blinded routes, some of our hops are expected
to have zero amounts to forward in their hop payload. This commit
updates our hop fee logic to attribute the full blinded route's
fees to the introduction node. We can't actually know where/how
these fees are distributed, so we collect them all at the
introduction node.
With the addition of blinded routes, we now need to account for the
possibility that intermediate nodes payloads will not have an amount
and expiry set because that information is provided by the recipient
encrypted data blob. This commit updates our payload packing to only
optionally include those fields.
This commit adds the encrypted_data, blinding_point and total_amt_msat
tlvs to the known set of even tlvs for the onion payload. These TLVs
are added in two places (the onion payload and hop struct) because
lnd uses the same set of TLV types for both structs (and they
inherently represent the same thing).
Note: in some places, unit tests intentionally mimic the style
of older tests, so as to be more consistently readable.

We add validation making sure we are not trying to register MPP shards
for non-MPP payments, and vice versa. We also add validtion of total
sent amount against payment value, and matching MPP options.
We also add methods for copying Route/Hop, since it is useful to use
for modifying the route amount in the test.
This commit prepares for more manipulation of custom records. A list of
tlv.Record types is more difficult to use than the more basic
map[uint64][]byte.
Furthermore fields and variables are renamed to make them more
consistent.
Currently the underlying array backing the hop's TLVRecords is modified
when combining custom records with the primitive forwarding info. This
commit uses a fresh slice to prevent modifications from mutating the
hop itself.
In this commit, we extend the Hop struct to carry an arbitrary set of
TLV values, and add a new field that allows us to distinguish between
the modern and legacy TLV payload.
We add a new `PackPayload` method that will be used to encode the
combined required routing TLV fields along any set of TLV fields that
were specified as part of path finding.
Finally, the `ToSphinxPath` has been extended to be able to recognize if
a hop needs the modern, or legacy payload.
In this commit, we update the process that we use to generate a sphinx
packet to send our onion routed HTLC. Due to recent changes in the
`sphinx` package we use, we now need to use a new PaymentPath struct. As
a result, it no longer makes sense to split up the nodes in a route and
their per hop paylods as they're now in the same struct. All tests have
been updated accordingly.
