Introduces ChainstateManager::GetPruneRange().
The prune budget is split evenly between the number of chainstates,
however the prune budget may be exceeded if the resulting shares are
beneath `MIN_DISK_SPACE_FOR_BLOCK_FILES`.
When using an assumedvalid chainstate, only process validationinterface
callbacks from the background chainstate within indexes. This ensures
that all indexes are built in-order.
Later, we can possibly designate indexes which can be built out of order
and continue their operation during snapshot use.
Once the background sync has completed, restart the indexes so that
they continue to index the now-validated snapshot chainstate.
In certain circumstances, we may want to flush to disk without
emptying `cacheCoins`, which affects performance. UTXO snapshot
activation is one such case.
This method is currently unused and this commit does not
change any behavior.

Refuse to load a wallet if it requires a rescan lower than the height of
an unvalidated snapshot we're running -- in more general terms, if we
don't have data for the blocks.
- Actually generate an assumeutxo hash and display it
- Add nchaintx to output (necessary for use in chainparams entry)
- Add path of serialized UTXO file to output
Only perform certain behavior (namely that related to servicing
the getblocktemplate RPC call) for the active chainstate when
calling UpdateTip.

Values for mainnet and testnet will be specified in a follow-up PR that can be
scrutinized accordingly. This structure is required for use in snapshot activation
logic.
Also adds CCoinsViewCache::ReallocateCache() to attempt to free
memory that the cacheCoins's allocator may be hanging onto when
downsizing the cache.
Adds `CChainState::m_coins{tip,db}_cache_size_bytes` data members
so that we can reference cache size on a per-chainstate basis for
flushing.
We'll need this to dynamically update the cache size of the existing
CCoinsViewDB instance when we create a new one during snapshot activation.
This requires us to keep the CDBWrapper instance as a pointer instead of
a reference so that we're able to destruct it and create a new instance
when the cache size changes.
Also renames `db` to `m_db` since we're already modifying each usage.
Includes feedback from Russ Yanofsky.
ChainstateManager is responsible for creating and managing multiple
chainstates, and will provide a high-level interface for accessing the
appropriate chainstate based upon a certain use.

This parameter is unused, but in future commits will allow ChainstateManager to
differentiate between chainstates created from a UTXO snapshot from those that
weren't.
This separates out some logic for detecting how full the coins cache is from
FlushStateToDisk. We'll want to reuse this logic when deciding when to flush
the coins cache during UTXO snapshot activation.
Before this change, the coins simulation test uses a base view of type
CCoinsViewTest, which has no relevance outside of the unittest suite. Might as
well reuse this testcase with a more realistic configuration that has
CCoinsViewDB at the bottom of the view structure.
Recent questions have come up regarding dynamic service registration
(see https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/16442#discussion_r308702676
and the assumeutxo project, which needs to dynamically flip NODE_NETWORK).
While investigating how dynamic service registration might work, I was
confused about how we convey local services to peers. This adds some
documentation that hopefully clarifies this process.
These procedures will later be used in the ChainstateManager to compute
statistics (particularly a content hash) for UTXO sets coming in from
snapshots.
i.e. any CoinsViews members. Adds a lock acquisition to `gettxoutsetinfo` RPC
to comply with added annotations.

This change encapsulates UTXO set data within CChainState instances, removing
global data `pcoinsTip` and `pcoinsviewdb`. This is necessary if we want to
maintain multiple chainstates with their own rendering of the UTXO set.
We introduce a class CoinsViews which consolidates the construction of a
CCoins* hierarchy. Construction of its various pieces (db, coinscatcher,
in-memory cache) is split up so that we avoid flushing bad state to disk if
startup is interrupted.
We also introduce `CChainState::CanFlushToDisk()` which tells us when it is
safe to flush the chainstate based on this partial construction.
This commit could be broken into smaller pieces, but it would require more
ephemeral diffs to, e.g., temporarily change CCoinsViewDB's constructor
invocations.
Other changes:
- A parameter has been added to the CCoinsViewDB constructor that allows the
name of the corresponding leveldb directory to be specified.
Thanks to Russell Yanofsky and Marco Falke for helpful feedback.
and into coins.cpp. This move is necessary so that we can later include a
CCoinsViewErrorCatcher instance under CChainState.

Separate out the management of chain-agnostic block metadata from any given
CChainState instance. This allows us to avoid duplicating data like
`mapBlockIndex` unnecessarily for multiple chainstates.
This also adds a CChainState constructor that accepts and sets m_blockman.
Ultimately this reference will point to a BlockMan instance that
is shared across CChainStates.
This commit can be decomposed into smaller commits if necessary.
Also renames global methods for clarity:
- ::FlushStateToDisk() -> CChainState::ForceFlushStateToDisk()
- This performs an unconditional flush.
- ::PruneAndFlush() -> CChainState::PruneAndFlush()
along with DisconnectResult, and CBlockIndexWorkComparator.
The CChainState interface needs to be known to the rest of the system because
many global functions will move to CChainState methods. This is to allow
other parts of the system to be parameterized per chainstate instance
instead of assuming a single global.
Though at the moment ChainActive() simply references `g_chainstate.m_chain`,
doing this change now clears the way for multiple chainstate usage and allows
us to script the diff.
-BEGIN VERIFY SCRIPT-
git grep -l "chainActive" | grep -E '(h|cpp)$' | xargs sed -i '/chainActive =/b; /extern CChain& chainActive/b; s/\(::\)\{0,1\}chainActive/::ChainActive()/g'
-END VERIFY SCRIPT-
This can't be a scripted-diff due to the confusion of the global
chainActive and the CChainState member of the same name.
This specific rename makes the following chainActive -> ::ChainActive() diff
scriptable.
This work is prerequisite to attaching thread names to log lines and deadlock
debug utilities. This code allows setting of an "internal" threadname per
thread on platforms where thread_local is available.
This commit also moves RenameThread() out of a more general module and adds a
numeric suffix to disambiguate between threads with the same name. It
explicitly names a few main threads using the new util::ThreadRename().
Introduces `TestNode.profile_with_perf()` context manager which
samples node execution to produce profiling data.
Also introduces a test framework flag, `--perf`, which will run
perf on all nodes for the duration of a given test.
Builds on travis are failing because the test node isn't
able to drop all the bad messages sent within the given
timeout. Reduce the number of bad messages we're sending
and increase the timeout to avoid failures on travis.
Adds a utility to get resident set size memory usage for a test
node and a context manager that allows assertions based upon
maximum memory use increase.
When we receive invalid txs for the first time, we mark the sender as
misbehaving. If we receive the same tx before a new block is seen, we *don't*
punish the second sender (in the same way we do the original sender). It wasn't
initially clear to me that this is intentional, so add a clarifying comment.
BlockAssembler chooses transactions on the basis of packages (which incorporate
unconfirmed ancestors into feerate), so the specified RBF comment about mining
code ignoring CPFP is out of date.
Addresses #12796.
When we're unable to add a sending address to the address book because it
already exists as a receiving address, display a message indicating as much.
This should help avoid confusion about an address supposedly already in the
book but which isn't currently visible in the interface.
Previously, if `invalidateblock` was called on a block in a branch,
NotifyBlockTip would be called on that block's predecessor, creating an
incorrect `rpc/blockchain.cpp:latestblock` value.
Only call NotifyBlockTip if the chain being modified is activeChain.
Change `-conf`'s and others' help messages to indicate that relative path
values will be prefixed by the datadir path. This behavior is confusing when
attempting to specify a configuration file in the current directory with
`-conf=bitcoin.conf`, but loading the `bitcoin.conf` file in ~/.bitcoin
datadir.
Instead of maintaining not-easily-tested instructions for building BerkeleyDB
in doc/build-unix.md, package the installation as a script in contrib/. This
allows shared usage from a number of contexts, e.g. Docker.
