It is now possible to specify select files to generate like the comment
at the top suggested (but was not actually allowed). This is useful
rarely but there is a case for it and that has been updated and it runs
a fair bit quicker now.
It is an error if no files specified are in the allowed set (the
variable TOP_MD_SET). If at least one file specified is in TOP_MD_SET it
will process that or those files but it will skip any that are not. This
is to prevent trying to process other markdown files like README.md
files without the proper script.
The last commit accidentally committed another change that was supposed
to be in a different commit (this one): some format and typo fixes in
bugs.md. That was committed but the html file was not regenerated until
now.
In other words rather than have the link name in the form of:
1984 decot bugs
it is now:
1984/decot in bugs.html
so that it matches how the entry itself looks (as in how it's
identified) and to say where (what file) it is (in). The reason it says
'in bugs.html' rather than 'bugs' (saying that the entry has bugs) is
because not all are bugs and it's saying where to see it anyway. But
some are features, others are missing links or files or other things
like that and to keep the same form it now says 'in bugs.html'.
This was done with my sgit(1) tool like:
sgit -e 's,\([0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]\) \([-a-z\.0-9]*\) bugs,\1/\2 in bugs.html,g' '*/*md'
The link to bugs.html itself has the path '../../bugs.html'. This is
important as it's meant to be rendered in the browser. At first this was
not remembered and I did something like:
sgit -e 's,\[\([0-9][0-9][0-9][0-9]\) \([-a-z\.0-9]*\) bugs\](../../bugs.html,\[\1/\2 in bugs.html\](%%REPO_URL%%/bugs.html,g' '*/*md'
but this was changed to the simpler one due to the problem described
above. It's worth putting this note here as a reminder, though, so I
have included it here.
As the index.html/README.md files say 'Alternate code' the 'alternative
source' has been changed to 'alternate code'. Similarly the text 'script
to try alternative code' was changed to 'script to try alternate code'.
A mistake was made where something referred to as being the alt code was
not the alt code (or the other way round).
Changed 'alternate alternative code' (or something like that) to 'second
alternate code'. This happened in steps and it might not, now that I
think on it, be the best wording, but this can be addressed later.
Rebuilt html files and .entry.json files.
Rather than have the rake.sh script remove prog.dSYM the Rakefile no
longer uses -g.
Also to silent the misleading-indentation warning the Rakefile has had
the -Wno-misleading-indentation option added to it too.
Changed 'description of entry in JSON' to 'entry summary and manifest in
JSON'.
Changed 'how to run' (for try scripts) to 'script to try entry'.
Changed 'how to run if you have the primes utility' to 'script to try
entry if you have the primes utility'.
Changed 'how to run alternative code' to 'script to try alternative
code'.
A number of other more specific (to particular entries or maybe even a
single entry, 2019/ciura if not any others) descriptions were also
changed.
Rebuilt index.html and .entry.json files.
We have fixed cases where markdown code blocks were not properly intended.
Updated `markdown.md` to discuss how markdown code blocks should be indented
and how blank lines should follow a markdown code block.
We used this shell script to find problematic code blocks:
```sh
find . -name '*.md' ! -name markdown.md -print | xargs pcregrep -M '^``.*\n[^|`\n \t]'
```
Ran `make www` to perform the above.
The `bin/gen-status.sh` will report that the given markdown file
(`next/rules.md` or `next/guidelines.md`) is the source of the
generated HTML file. This is so that the HTML produced by either
`make gen_status` or `make gen_top_html` will generated the same
HTML comments. Moreover the comments in `next/rules.html` and
`next/guidelines.html` refer to the markdown file as the source of
the information instead of a tool such as `bin/gen-status.sh`.
Changed `bin/gen-status.sh` VERSION from "1.5.1 2024-04-28"
to "1.5.2 2024-04-30".
Added news for 2024-04-30 into `news.md`.
Make news dates "less shouty".
Ran `make www` to perform the above.
I noticed a problem with my improvement to the Makefile allowing one to
not use a temporary file so although the 'all' rule uses that method one
can still generate a.c so one can follow the author's remarks.
Links to this file were changed to code blocks, however, as the file
does not always exist. make clobber will remove a and a.c.
