In several cases where the `faq.md` had **XXX**'s, we replaced the
text with equivalent text for someone to read (such as the **IOCCC
registration procedure** or **IOCCC submit server** is not ready).
In a number of cases, an HTML comment with a **XXX** inside,
was added as an indicator for the need of a future edit.
Added `make sitemap` as an alias for `make gen_sitemap`.
Performed `make gen_top_html sitemap` to do perform the above.
Changed `bin/gen-status.sh` VERSION from "1.0 2024-03-09"
to "1.1 2024-03-10".
Changed `bin/status2html.sh` VERSION from "1.0 2024-03-09"
to "1.1 2024-03-10".
Improved for explanatory text added near the top of the
`index.html` page by `bin/status2html.sh`.
While `bin/status2html.sh` in intended as tool that is internally
called only, we allowed for a 0 arg use for those who are simply
curious as to what it does.
Tested various _contest_status_ values with `bin/gen-status.sh`.
This resulted in a forced change of _status_update_ in `status.json`.
Removed extraneous whitespace from `bin/output-index-author.sh`.
Performed `make www` to finalize all of the above, although a
`make gen_status` followed by `make gen_sitemap` would have
been sufficient.
Changed the model of `status.json` model.
Updated `status.json` IOCCC_status_version from "0.2 2023-05-22"
to "1.0 2024-03-09".
Updated FAQ 2.6, improving how IOCCC entries announced.
Moved `bin/ioccc-status.sh` to `tmp/ioccc-status.sh`
now that we have a new status.json model for
which this tool no longer fits (sorry tm Canada 🇨🇦).
Added `status.md` markdown to explain the `status.json` model.
Added `status.html` to both display the contents of `status.json`
and render the contents of `status.md` as HTML.
Added `bin/status2html.sh` to convert `status.json`
into HTML for the `status.html` file.
Added `bin/gen-status.sh` to form `status.json`
and `status.html` files.
Added `make gen_status` to top level Makefile.
Performed `make www` to complete all of the above.
Changed `bin/gen-year-index.sh` VERSION from "1.0.2 2024-03-08"
to "1.0.3 2024-03-09".
Changed `bin/md2html.sh` VERSION from "1.1 2024-03-08"
to "1.1.1 2024-03-09".
The HTML files now include a comment indicating from where the main
part of the markdown content.
Changed `bin/gen-other-html.sh` VERSION from "1.0 2024-02-27"
to "1.0.1 2024-03-08".
Changed `bin/gen-top-html.sh` VERSION from "1.2 2024-02-29"
to "1.2.1 2024-03-08".
Changed `bin/gen-year-index.sh` VERSION from "1.0.1 2024-02-23"
to "1.0.2 2024-03-08".
Changed `bin/md2html.sh` VERSION from "1.0.1 2024-02-23"
to "1.1 2024-03-08".
Changed `bin/quick-readme2index.sh` VERSION from "1.1.1 2024-02-23"
to "1.1.2 2024-03-08".
It should be pointed out that there are a few inconsistencies as noted
below.
In some years the title of entries that were explicitly listed were
linked to but as the README.md files no longer have the title it was not
as easy to locate the title (I could go back in archive/historic and I
did in some cases but I was trying to hurry this up to close#3).
It's most likely that some have backticks surrounding certain words like
gcc or something else but not in all files. An example that might be
there is '#define'.
Some wording is different. Usually this is due to the original wording
which I did not think was good to change. There might be other cases
that were missed as well. One thing is that comes to mind is that in
some README.md files it refers to the Makefile to check for build
instructions, in others it refers to the index.html file and in some it
refers to both. But the index.html has how to build so they should
probably all say index.html and not refer to the Makefile. This was also
done in a rush.
There might be other inconsistencies or things that might want to be
fixed but whether it's worth it given is unclear at this time. It can be
argued that the reference to the Makefiles for build instructions is a
historical comment to keep there as an example of why not to change it.
There were other things I noticed that I could not address or did not
feel were necessary but with this commit an important task is can likely
be considered done unless it is decided that some of these should be
fixed or if looking at the rendered output there is a problem.
'FAQ 6.10: How does someone make a change to a file and submit that
change as a GitHub pull request?' has been updated to note that the
authors of winning entries tend to have more deference but that the
judges still have the final say in the matter.
There were some typos (including links) and formatting fixes as well.
This is not completed. I still have to look at the section '2020 Dec 30
thru 202y MMM DD - Work on the temp-test-ioccc GitHub repo' and anything
beyond it.
