It now clarifies that the CC=... checks by substring so that one can do
make CC=gcc-mp-12, for example, and it will register as gcc.
It also clarifies that the top level Makefile and the year Makefiles
recurse into subdirectories so that one can compile individual entries,
entries for a given year or all entries.
This commit makes fixes (links and otherwise) up through 2001/anonymous
(unfortunately this will take more edits than I had hoped but I hope to
be done with this file and moving to another long file in the next few
days or so).
Broken links and various other things were fixed.
By 'up to 2000' I do not mean 2000 is done but rather that will be the
next year I will have to check.
As I was going through another file I noticed that something was missing
from the script, if perl is installed, and it also prompts the user if
they wish to run the author's suggested command (it results in an
infinite loop which is why it was left out but prompting for it is okay
as it's at the end).
The make clobber rule was updated for this update.
Rather than do 'stat' or 'ls' do type -P on the tools and check that
they exist (or that the variables are not empty), exiting with a fatal
error (and exit code 5) if either are empty. The variables are used in
the script instead of the raw or literal 'stat' and 'ls'.
The new one is how to set tabstop (for viewing code) in vi(m).
Add to the mastodon FAQ a note that there is an app but it does not have
push notifications for posts by people you follow.
Minor typo fixes elsewhere.
Now the is for text is not in italic so that only the letter is in
italics and the word is in a code block but the 'is for' is in normal
text. This looks nicer and makes the letter and the word stand out
better.
For each year it now shows which IOCCC it was. In other words for 1984
the link title is now:
1984 - The 1st IOCCC
and 1985 is:
1985 - The 2nd IOCCC
and 1986 is:
1986 - The 3rd IOCCC
and so on up to 2020 which is:
2020 - The 27th IOCCC
This helps it stand out better and it shows which contest it was.
There were a few other fixes. This edit does NOT check further years
from yesterday's commit 2647827d94 and it
is possible I won't do more years until another day (though I started
1996 but nothing needed to be fixed, I think).
Other minor fixes in formatting were also made.
Rebuilt thanks-for-help.html.
I fixed the problem of it not working with some compilers/systems ages
ago but the README.md file still had:
STATUS: doesn't work with some compilers - please provide alternative code or fix for more compilers
Rebuilt index.html.
Fixed errors in `1991/davidguy/Makefile`, `2000/bmeyer/Makefile`
and `2012/kang/Makefile` where a multi-line `CSILENCE` make variable
was not properly continued onto the next line.
Improve the output of `make quick_www` and `make www` no be less
verbose and more informative. Doing this allowed us to uncover
some bugs in the above mentioned entry Makefiles.
The `make quick_www` and `make www` no longer perform a
`make gen_status`.
The `make gen_top_html` rule, via `bin/gen-top-html.sh` will form
`status.html` based solely on the contents of `status.md`. Only
the `make gen_status` rule will modify `status.md` if needed, and
then rebuild `status.html` if needed.
The `status.html` file was updated to reflect the common way that
`make gen_top_html` forms this file. The `make timestamp` performs
a `make gen_top_html` after running `make gen_status` so that the
resulting `status.html` file matches what `make quick_www` and
`make www` would produce.
Changed `bin/gen-top-html.sh` VERSION from "1.4.5 2024-05-19"
to "1.4.6 2024-05-24" to perform the above.
Improved the text written by `make help`.
Added "for $TOOL" to the debug output of `bin/all-run.sh` to
help identify the tool performing the action.
Changed `bin/all-run.sh` VERSION from "1.3.3 2024-04-13"
to "1.3.4 2024-05-24" to perform the above.
Moved `make gen_other_html` after `make entry_index` and after the
`make quick_entry_index` in `make quick_www` and `make www`.
Perform `make quick_www` to perform the above and test under macOS.
Perform `make www` to perform the above and test under macOS.
The inc files that have been removed were from the days, prior to
commit 97f6da1247 when the web site
used left side links and right side content. Now, no web IOCCC
web pages use them so there have been removed so as to not
needlessly complicate the `inc/` directory with unused stuff.
We add the following default IOCCC setting to `ioccc.css`:
```css
img {
height: auto;
max-width: 95%;
position: relative;
}
```
We also modified `ioccc.css` to use consitent 4 space indentation.
No other `ioccc.css` changes were made.
The "letter is for" is now inside HTML italics and
the C keyword is now inside HTML code.
Using lower case letters as the C keywords are
also in lower case and we prefer lower case.
Changed `bin/gen-authors.sh` VERSION from "1.10.2 2024-05-19"
to "1.10.3 2024-05-24" to perform the above.
Perform `make gen_authors` to perform the above.
This includes broken links and typos but also a stylistic change as
well. In particular each index.html file is preceded with the text:
Winning entry:
and the next line, the source code, is preceded with:
Winning entry source code:
This is to make them stand out more. It's not, maybe, immediately
obvious that the first links to index.html but I have not come up with a
way to make it obvious that looks nice as adding 'index.html' to
'Winning entry' might take from the fact that the section below is about
the fixes to the entry (or I might be taking it too literally too which
is entirely possible :-) ).
Missing links were also added for the years beyond 1995 at least for the
YYYY/index.html links. Those have not been checked for typos but when I
get to those years I will check those too.
I hope to get this file done in another two edits but probably no more
than three will be required.
Regenerated thanks-for-help.html file.
We found cases where pandoc reported a conversion from markdown to
HTML problem that, while reported by the `bin/pandoc-wrapper.sh`
to `bin/md2html.sh`, which in turn reported to error to the tool
calling it, the tool calling `bin/md2html.sh` set `$EXIT_CODE` to
a non-zero value in order to delay the abort but then failed to act
on the non-zero `$EXIT_CODE` value at the end.
In a number of cases when `$EXIT_CODE` was set to non-zero, the
stderr message was labeled as a "Warning" instead of an "ERROR".
Fixed a bug in `bin/gen-authors.sh` that resulted the generation
of invalid markdown/HTML. An `<hr>` HTML tag inside a `<div>` span
caused pandoc to issue "Div at .. closing implicitly" at the _hr_
HTML tag line. For some reason, one cannot place a `<hr>`
(horizontal line) inside a `<div ... /div>` span.
Fixed a broken markdown links in `2020/endoh2/README.md` whose error
was hidden by one of the above mentioned problems.
Changed `bin/gen-authors.sh` VERSION from "1.10.1 2024-05-07"
to "1.10.2 2024-05-19" as a result of the above changes.
Changed `bin/gen-location.sh` VERSION from "1.4.1 2024-04-28"
to "1.4.2 2024-05-19" as a result of the above changes.
Changed `bin/gen-top-html.sh` VERSION from "1.4.6 2024-05-05"
to "1.4.5 2024-05-19" as a result of the above changes.
Changed `bin/gen-years.sh` VERSION from "1.3.1 2024-04-28"
to "1.3.2 2024-05-19" as a result of the above changes.
Changed `bin/quick-readme2index.sh` VERSION from "1.1.4 2024-04-13"
to "1.1.5 2024-05-19" as a result of the above changes.
Changed `bin/readme2index.sh` VERSION from "1.2.4 2024-04-14"
to "1.2.5 2024-05-19" as a result of the above changes.
Performed `make www` to test the above under macOS.
Although there were a few lines that I kind of looked over quickly, not
evaluating the files in question, those seemed in good state anyway.
Often that was binary files.
In some cases for example input more information was given but not in
all as it was not always clear what it should be and it was not always
clear that it was necessary. Some typos were fixed as well.
Rebuilt .entry.json and index.html files.
A few other files were also modified with some minor fixes like
2006/toledo2/README.md for one example. In that case I believe some
binary files were referenced as %%REPO_URL%% but that is incorrect.
These files were edited before the index.html files were rebuilt so they
should be fine.
It should be noted that although I have gone through the entire manifest
and it might be that issue #1933 can be closed there is still a chance
that when I go through the web pages that I might come across a problem
that I will fix at that time. This might or might not be needed but that
will be determined later.
Now might be a good time to run make www but I will worry about that
later (it might or might not even do anything, depending on what was
missed).
Added './' to command invocations for scripts etc.
Noted that the tests/ directory (or the files in it) were moved to entry
directory. The same for variations/ files.
It did not show the use of the files submitted by the author, the
adrian.grep files that were not adrian.grep.try (though some do not show
output with the README.md file).
Split very long file (command shown) so that it shows it on two lines.
These were discovered when looking at the manifest (some changes made so
far but not ready for a commit).
Changed in 1984/anonymous 'source code tattoo image' to 'source code and
tattoo image'.
Changed in 1984/mullender 'header file for gentab.c for compatibility
with 1984 systems' to 'gentab.c header file for compatibility with
systems in 1984'. The rationale here is that it's not 1984 systems but
systems in 1984. I would have kept the ordering of the wording the same
but that was more than 59 characters. The way it is worded now is not
necessarily better (other than not being literally incorrect - that is
if it's interpreted literally it is incorrect) but it's also not worse.
Minor format fix in 1985/shapiro/README.md.
Rebuilt index.html and .entry.json files.
I believe that with this commit issue #858 can be marked complete but
this can only be determined once this has been merged. From a test repo
I made it does look pretty nice.
Things are more consistent, there is a place for attaching images
explicitly (though not required as it's not always relevant though very
helpful), typo fixes and rewording at the least.
