This is a subtle thing that I brought up on GitHub. Landon made the
change in many files but missed some in 1986 through 1989. I am aware of
a mass typo in the Makefiles but since some Makefiles are pending
changes I'm not doing that yet.
For 1988/dale it will not compile under macOS. I was able to get it to
almost compile under macOS but there was one problem. As well this 'fix'
will make it not compile under linux. One change was required which was
changing the #define _ define followed by #_ foo to be just '#define
foo' etc.
Added to 1988/isaak/.gitignore isaak.output.
1988/spinellis won't compile with clang.
1988/phillipps will compile but it is likely to segfault at least in
some systems (maybe not all).
Updated many README.md files for the changes above (and probably other
changes I've neglected to write in this log). Most changes in the readme
files are probably just formatting and probably typos as well as how to
compile and run entries nowadays. There might have been other changes.
Updated 1984/README.md with link to rules.txt.
Updated 1984/decot/README.md removing the note
NOTE: This entry might not compile when using modern compilers.
as this was redundant (I already added more information in an earlier
commit). As well I moved the header Judges' comments below that note so
that the note about compiling is under the build section of the
README.md.
1986/wall will not compile under the default gcc (as it's actually
clang) with macOS as it requires -traditional-cpp which unfortunately
clang does not support.
Also fixed many of the README.md files.
Removed 1986/bright/bright.orig.c (probably because it won't compile on
modern systems but maybe not; I did that change a while back but didn't
finish working on 1986 until just now).
This is to let the viewers know that sometimes the program will display
invalid input. The note is modelled after some of the other entries that
have bug reports. Okay it's also some shameless self promotion but never
mind that! :-)
As well a few minor changes in 2014/vik/README.md mostly being removing
double spaces in favour of single spaces (particularly in the general
text). There were some other formatting fixes as well.
In 2020/ferguson2/README.md I made a few adjustments as well (though I'm
aware of a few more changes in 2020/ferguson[12]/README.md I want to
make).
Since it was in a string that was added by the judges I feel it's okay
to fix this (it was also already fixed in the 1992/nathan/nathan.c file
prior to instating the original entry).
Restore absent-minded change of make all to make nathan.
Fix typos.
Fix formatting (the text in the sections is indented which makes it all
code blocks). This problem is probably because originally the file was
not README.md (though it was still considered markdown). Many other
README.md files have this problem which I will fix in time.
It has been deemed that this should be okay now so we decided to add the
code.
This required a minor change in 2020/ferguson2 which I have made here as
well in this commit.
In nathan.c there was also a typo fix but since it's not the original
entry (or any thing like it) it's okay to do this. This is actually the
subject of a discussion to be had on GitHub which I'll be addressing in
a bit.
In README.md there was also a typo fixed.
Updated README.md to refer to the alt version instead. Note that it's
there because it provides fun output and also shows how it originally
looked (which is quite different from the fixed [for modern compilers]
version that I believe I made in an earlier commit but if so I'm not
sure which one).
We reverse the workaround for UTF-8 character in 2001/ollinger/README.md
from 76d2e9d053 and put back the é
character in that file.
We did this because the test for reversing a similar workaround
for 2011/borsanyi/README.md worked with commit
43350972c9.
In commit 9058b1c576 we replaced
a ß with ss due to a Jekyll::Converters::Markdown error that
prevented GitHub from rendering the web site.
We reverse this change and see if the rendering problem
still persists.
Unfortunately some entries will either not compile under macOS or not
run correctly. We used a patch from Yusuke Endoh for
1985/applin/applin.c. Thank you Yusuke! This is actually the entry that
does not work right under macOS but it does under linux.
Update main README.md with links.
Update a number of other README.md files with typos and other fixes and
improvements (including fixing invocations and adding a 'Try:' section
to match later year README files).
Update various Makefiles to add notes and to make some entries compile
(in some cases, those that require -traditional-cpp, they will not
compile under clang and we note this).
Update archive/archive-1985.tar.bz2. Why? Because the purpose of the
archive/ files are for the original files and some of the files in there
were not original. See the files 1985/lycklama/lycklama.orig.c and
1985/shapiro/shapiro.orig.c which in the tarball do not have the .orig
added to the name.
As in
find . -name 'whowon.html' -execdir git rm '{}' \;
or more simply just
git rm '*/whowon.html'
This is per discussion on GitHub - the files will in the future be
generated rather than made manually so these files must go for now.
This will not compile with clang which is actually what gcc is under
macOS. Unfortunately clang does not support -traditional-cpp which this
entry requires for modern systems.
We would like to thank Yusuke Endoh for the patch to get this to compile
with gcc. Thank you very much Yusuke!
